Project Queen Mary 2

The magnificent Queen Mary 2, the world's largest ocean liner, is coming to the port of Saint John on October 8th. My objective is to board the ship and write a story about the experience. Can I make this happen? Or will this dream drift away like the fog? We'll see. For now, I am liking the fact that I feel passionate about this and a few other goals. I found out today, for example, that a film project in Fredericton is looking for a female big band singer. I sent in my resume and two headshots.

I'm in Idol!

I did it! I just came from The Wave radio station, where I registered as a contestant for "Saint John Idol." It may sound like a trivial thing, but it's symbolic of my new determination to shed anxiety about getting older. If I start restricting myself from doing things because of age, I will never really live.

Idol in Brazil

I have made a funny decision. I'm going to compete in the Saint John Idol contest this summer. I had considered judging it, but then I found out the prize package includes a $5,000 trip to Brazil. Ooh la la! Most of the contestants will be much younger. But as my 90-year-old friend George said today: "If you have the energy, and you want to do something, then do it." These are words to keep in my mind for life.

Ah, the harrowing life of a mommy diva!

Wow. I had heard about this funny new phenomenon called blogging. But I had no idea it would be this easy to get one going. I don't even remember how I wound up at blogger.com a few minutes ago. Oh yes, now I do. I was doing research for an article about divas on a budget, and I found a blog on the topic of -- you guessed it -- divas on a budget. Well, what do I say next? That this is a freaky and cool experience. That I hope blogging will turn into a new passion. That I wonder how long it will be before Jeff and Juliet get home from the store. J & J are my hubby and 15-month-old daughter. I am tired today because Juliet was up three times last night. She is still breastfed and simply loves being close to Mommy. Mommy, meanwhile, was utterly exhausted from having sung for three hours at a corporate event. Yes, I am the mommy diva. I can go from feather boas and torch songs to diapers and "Twinkle Twinkle" in 10 seconds flat. It's a great life. But I have to sacrifice the martinis to keep the breast milk unleaded. Music and mammaries. Elation and exhaustion. Lush Life and Little Bo Beep. These are my life. This is my blog.
